Family Information and FOPHS News Friday 29th November 2024

Welcome to 网红黑料社 School's Family Liaison Blog!

I can hardly believe that December is almost upon us and there are lots of plans for the last 3 weeks of term. I鈥檝e included a link to the updated events calendar which you will find on the school website under the link below:

The term dates calendar for next year is there too. This link was sent to you this week too.

Please, when checking term dates, visit the school website where the most up to date versions will be found.

Yesterday I held a social coffee afternoon. It was good to see some new faces. The main topic of discussion was accessing social care support and the benefits as your young people get older. So, this week I am covering Social Care in the information section. I know that I will have done this before, but reminders and prompts are useful I think.

Events:

Thursday 5th December 14-15.00: FoPHS meeting

You are welcome to come in to school or join online. Letter sent today.

A letter has been sent this week with all the Christmas events. I have had queries about what events parents are able to attend etc.

So, I鈥檓 hoping this helps. Ones to which parents are invited are marked in bold on the letter

9th December: LSTE pathway: Classes: HL, BE, AH, CH & HF

16th December: EYFS/ELTBA: Classes: ED, HR, RC, HB, TW, LL/SH & KH/SH

19th December: Upper School & KS3 classes: RR, JH, KR, AJ, JF/HT, OW,LD, AR, LWC/RD, KG, LA, LF, HF, HB, RC, KH & TW.

Online Safety:

The link to the Online safety information can be found on the school website under the heading 鈥淧arent and carers area鈥, then 鈥渙nline safety鈥 from the dropdown menu.

The weekly online safety blogs are useful and up to date and include important information to help protect your child/young person online.

This week鈥檚 focusses on creating and maintaining a positive online presence, especially with our young students having their own social media accounts!

Building a Positive Online Reputation

The internet keeps track of what we do online, like the pictures we share, the comments people make about us, and the items we purchase. This is known as our online reputation. It’s important for children to learn how to take care of their online reputation and understand the effects of having a negative online reputation.

Information: Social Care Support

This week I am revisiting social care support. I am doing it because it was the main topic of our social coffee afternoon yesterday and I want to respond to current issues or needs.

Information: Mencap

Yesterday I did the second of the 2 webinars which are free for parents/carers which I found very informative. In my role, it is important that I keep up to date so that I can signpost you to the best places.

Borrowing a powerchair

I鈥檝e been emailed by a company called Meru, who are offering a loan of a powerchair. I do not know if this would be of interest to families, nor can I recommend as I have no feedback to share. I emailed to ask for more information, and this was the response:

Activities: Alnwick Garden/Lilledorei light trail

There is a good review on North East family Fun about this trail. Always useful to have some idea what it鈥檚 about especially those with special needs where planning, managing expectations can be key to a good day out or a complete failure.

FoPHS News:

Join Our 100 Club

An easy way to support is the 100 club! This year we have less support than in previous years. Understandably the soaring cost of living affects so many. Thanks to those of you who have supported and got family and friends to do so too. We will draw the first 6 winners at the AGM.

Facebook Group

As I spoke to parents and a colleague this week, and the thought below came to mind. For many of us, caring isn鈥檛 restricted to our children with special needs, but will extend to caring for elderly relatives too in time. Thought provoking?

Caregivers

鈥淕o through more than they will tell you;

They give up a lot and rarely have a social life;

They can get sick and emotionally worn out.

It鈥檚 a lot for one person,

and you will never understand,

until you have walked the road of a caregiver.鈥
